Hello everyone. These are my updates for the month of October. It is Autumn and you can tell that Fall is here by the changing colors. There is a lot to share with you this month because October is very busy. I would like to start by talking about Community Day. I hope you are aware that we have been planning that event for several months. Then, with Hurricane Ian, there was bad weather up the east coast and all of the rain caused us to cancel Community Day. We will still be having it but we are postponing it until the spring. The homecoming component of the day still happened. Athletes from the Rochester School for the Deaf came down and played with us. The rain held out so it was not too bad. We were able to play the soccer game. It was a great game and a great learning experience for our students even though we ultimately lost that game. For volleyball, Rochester only had two players for the girls team. They didn’t have enough for a full game without the help of MKSD. Their players joined Rochester and we were able to play a game. We technically won because of the forfeit but the game we played we actually lost. Despite the weather we had a wonderful opportunity for the three schools to work together and we had a nice time at lunch as well. We are looking forward to more opportunities like that. We are also looking forward to the postponed Community Day in the spring. I also wanted to share with you an update about October 3rd and our Golf Outing. Due to all the rain we had a tough deliberation that morning and ultimately decided to cancel the event. We do have a backup plan for those of you who signed up for the event and would like to golf. The club is working with us to get vouchers to each of you so you can play golf another time. Despite that, there were some people who showed up at the golf club and we had a nice time together over lunch. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and we did have to cancel it but the golf outing would be back again next year.In terms of the school and other updates we have not had Back-to-School-Night in person for the last two or three years. It has been on Zoom. This year we are finally going to be hosting it back on campus. We will have the main building Back-to-School-Night and then separately the preschool and Early Childhood Programs for their Back-to-School-Night. All of those dates are on the calendars that were sent out to families. As for sports, I also wanted to share with you that ESDAA, who we are always involved with, is giving us the opportunity to play soccer in Rochester. It will be as part of the Eastern Division 2. We also have the volleyball tournament coming up in Ohio in November. We will have more details to share about that and the results of those games later. For the school more generally, we do have strategic planning underway. We had a 2019-2022 Strategic Plan but with the end of that plan we are beginning the process for a new one. This one will cover 2023-2026. That process is being supported with my help but really Melissa Draganac-Hawk will be taking the lead and doing the implementation of the new strategic plan once she has taken on the role of Head of School. The process is underway so we will keep you posted. We anticipate that that strategic plan will be completed and made available on the website by Spring. Those are the highlights for this month. Again, October is very busy, but we hope it is a good month for everyone. Hang in there. Hopefully the weather will improve and stay safe everyone.
