Pennsylvania law requires all positions working with children to successfully complete three clearances.
Professional Development
We offer an array of support services to ensure quality teaching by our staff. Professional growth at PSD is robust and comes in a variety of formats. Collegial and collaborative learning is an integral part of the culture of our school. In addition to a formal in-service program, PSD offers short courses, professional learning communities, vertical and content collaboration time, tuition and professional membership reimbursement, opportunities to attend and present at conferences, and more.
Regular workshops and training sessions on use and applications are scheduled throughout the school year.
PSD’s Educational Resource Center, and various book/material repositories, are intended to provide support in instructional development and adaptations.
Lead and mentor teachers work closely with classroom staff on planning and differentiation of instruction. Each teacher devises an individually tailored professional growth plan every year. Paraprofessional educators pursue state credential certification and annual training.

PSD offers a wide selection of specialized internship and field experience opportunities. PSD provides a diverse range of internship and field experience opportunities which span various focus areas, offering individuals the chance to gain hands-on experience tailored to their interests and career goals. Possible opportunities include, but are not limited to:

- Student Teaching
- Deaf Education Field Experience – This one week program provides an immersive experience that offers students to gain core competencies needed to become successful teachers. The program expands prospective teachers’ comprehension of effective classroom practices and assists students into converting theoretical constructs into practical teaching strategies and methods.
